As Jim Mark and Royce saw last year, some buddies of ours we race with won the outlaw 10.5 class last year in the elky their dad bought new. Last weekend at an event on a loose track they had a pretty ugly crash, it's a testament to the safety of the cars that he walked away from this, pretty banged up but relatively unhurt and already planning his return.

Check out this link http://www.speedzonemagazine.com/zones/mrpzone/10/open/index.htm
and scroll down until you see all the farme by frames of the Blue Elky, pretty brutal.

Here's a few shots..

WOW brutal indeed. Very glad he wasn't hurt to bad. Too dad you can't say that for the car to. Although it says he plans to fix the car so the firewall/cab area must have been spared. Keep us posted on his return if you would. It would be great to see.

Yeah that was an ugly crash. He's really lucky the car didn't go over, it was really close.
Figure he's at the top end of the track, the car runs 6.60's and he was probably pushing 190 when he lost it....

You would be amazed at how well those cars can be saved, it's a real Elky body in back, but it's a full chassis car. Usually you can wack off the front of the chassis and start over firewall forward, replace repair and straighten the rest. All the body is basic sheet metal and fiber glass. It's a nasty fix no doubt, but i'm sure it will be back before Vegas this year, I have a feeling.

Wow! Man I wonder how many G's he pulled when he hit that wall? Glad he's OK.

Can you imagine what that felt like? He walked out but I believe went to the hospital to be looked over. He is fine though.
Look at where he crashed, he had gone 6.60's at 209 the previous round, he was definitely moving and plowed head first into the wall. The safety level of these cars is amazing, but a crash like that could easily be your last...

WOW!! That is a nasty crash. Glad he is ok. I really hope he is able to fix the car, that car is one of my favorites every year in Vegas.

Have you seen the car in person since the crash, Sean?

No I haven't seen it yet Royce, I talked to Trevor last week and he said he had talked to them and they had hauled the car home and were going on vacation (last week) but were ready to get started rebuilding it, it's pretty bad I guess by all reports fixable.
What sucks for them is that car was on rails for the last couple years, it took them a lot of work to get it were it was and now it's a do over. No matter how much they can save and rebuild, you know they are essentially starting over with a new chassis. you know when you plant it in the wall like that every nut bolt and joint feels it.
I won't be surprised to see them in Vegas though, they are pretty determined.
