 Post subject: swapping 10-12 bolt rear?

Ok i have one question where is the best place to support the car up in the air to swap out the rearend?
on the back almost end of the frame ??
i did it on my chevelle 2 yrs ago but its a full frame and i set it on the jack stands just in front of rear tires and had no issue.
any help or pics would be greatly appreciated!!! thanx Tony

I put the stands just in front of the spring pockets on the frame rails. As long as teh engines in the car your fine.

I've also used the rockers to support the back of the car. 2x4 wrapped in a towel on top of the jackstand of course. They are strong.

If you're not changing the springs it can also stand on the springs. But on the frame is the best.

There is usually a drifference in the spring perches on 10-bolt vs 12-bolt depending on what springpacks you have. Most ten bolt cars only had one leaf and 12-bolts normally had 4 or 5 leafs. You have to take this in consideration when bolting it back together so that the leafsprings get properly seated on the axle.

Just something to think about...

here's a pic. Mine was an 8.5" 10 bolt. I used a 1" lowering block above the spring, and no rubber at all.
I got some 1/4" by 1" stock from the h/w store, and used that to shim out any gaps in the perches for a tight solid fit.

None of my pics show the jackstands, I think they were under the subframe connectors.

thanx for the heads up jan, i have all new multi leaf springs, rubber pads and new hardware so it will be complete out and complete back in drum to drum spring eye to new shackles.
