Wasn't sure were to post this question but here goes. Has anyone else had trouble getting the SS letters to align straight with the Classic Headquarters replacement SS gas cap ? I recently bought one and it won't turn on far enough for the letters to be straight. Of course Classic says it's a problem with my filler neck. The neck is original and the old rs cap I've had on it for the last couple years aligned just fine. I loosened all the neck screws at the tail panel location and turned the neck as far as the holes would allow. I guess I could elongate the holes further but at some point the neck will hit the brace inside the trunk too. Anyone have any other suggestions ??

Try a different gascap?
Mines been on as long as I've had the car, and it's upside down. Not quite as annoying as crooked, but annoying nonetheless.

I emailed the ebay seller about the issue and he supposedly called Classic. They, of course, claim it's a problem with the car. "It must have an aftermarket filler neck that isn't made correctly". The filler neck is original. I've had this problem with Classic Headquarters with other trim pieces they make that don't fit right but it's never their product....it's always something not right with the car. They did not offer to send a replacement to see if it would correct the problem nor did the seller. He did offer a refund if I want to send it back......on my dime of course. I would be out $18.00 in shipping for a $35.00 refund. Doesn't make any sense to do that. I will most likely drill out the rivets on the back and reposition the cap on the lock tabs.

You are not alone. I purchased mine from firewheelclassics and it's not quite straight either...see pic.

So Classics claim of never having an issue with this is BS, just like I suspected. That's EXACTLY the angle mine sits at too. Maybe we should all email pics of their "perfect" reproductions on our cars to them.

Mine was like that too... I read somewhere on camaros.net that it was possible to hold it with pliers by the tabs that would lock on the filler neck and have another person hold the chrome finished side, twist accordingly to correct position when locked on filler tube. This apparently would easily fix the problem. In my case this was not true at all, the cap snapped apart before it had turned at all. My body guy drilled and tapped it and bolted it back together straight for me.

such a pain. I was thinking about drilling it out too. It's funny that you guys brought this up.

Like I said. I didn't purchase mine from Classic, but it was OER in the blue/white GM box which is the same as yours I'm sure.

Probably, Classic Headquarters claims they are the only one with the "license" from GM to reproduce them. Blue/White box with Classic headquarters on it. I really think we should all contact them about their issue that they don't feel they have.

I have an NOS GM SS cap here and a new repro one, also an NOS GM filler neck, I'll do some investigating and see if there are any noticeable differences.
Watch this space.... :3gears:
