Well I am doing my winter projects now, it was 65 degrees the last three days, nice to not have to smell the kerosene blow heater sometimes, I did a tranny swap from TH400 to a muncie 4-speed after Christmas and discovered that my tunnel was in worst shape than I first realized. Then after removing carpet and padding....I discovered that my floor pans had some some minor rust issues with some holes, so I now I am removing the bad metal(small area right there in the flat area before it rises up to the toe board) on both driver and passenger. I removed the driver side last nite with plasma cutter but was wondering how to get my rust encapsulator to stay on the metal. The metal pan has oil left on it from the stamping process and I know to use thinner to remove the oil but should I use some type of primer first, then put rust paint on it? Would it be better to do the painting process before or after I weld them in?

After welding, wash the metal with body wash, prep-sol or even brake clean. Most here use Por-15 with great results. If you want to use a rust encapsulate product, use that first then paint as desired. Others here should have ideas also...

So after the por 15, then just paint with chassis black

I may be too late to help . But ....When using por 15 follow all the cleaning and prep instructions to the letter. To top coat it , mist a coat of the top coat on the por 15 when its still tacky to the touch. Then let dry and finish the top coat later. If the por is fully cured you will need to use por tie coat primer in order for the top coat to bond.

I use this stuff all the time and love it , but you can't take short cuts.
