Do any of you have a step by step on replacing a truck floor? I've haven't done much body work on my own (helped others with some stuff though), and think I might give it a shot in the near future. I'll also be replacing the inner and out wheel houses too. The inners will be minitubs. :3gears:
If it sounds like I can handle it, I might actually try this. What could possibly go wrong...

If I'm off I'd be happy to help where I could. I've never done it either but I can help with prep and such. Just a thought.

I see the available parts have changed since I started mine in 96. If I had it to do today I'd buy a complete trunk pan instead of the one I bought. There's no way to get the complete in thru the trunk opening and I don't think it fits from the interior either. It might fit thru the rear body panel if you jist cut the tail light portiom out leaving the gutter and the lower section intact. Unless the quality of the rear body panels has been retooled in the last ten years you need an NOS replacemnt in my opinion.

If you are replacing inner and outer wheelhouses, are you doing the quarters too?
Real hard to do the outer wheelhouses without removing the quarters, tho it can be done in pieces.

Most remove the tailpan, and slide the trunk in thru the hole.

I didn't know it was easier to do the outers with the 1/4s off. :wall: Never did this type of work before.
And let me guess, it's easier to do the full truck with the 1/4s off too. And the ......
I don't want to do 1/4s myself. But every time I think I want to do some of the work,
it turns out to be easier with the 1/4s off. :wall:

With all your doing you need to go ahead and pull both quarters. Save you a bunch of headachs and a lot of time. And the bonus is you will get a much better result. I would also add to not pull both quarters at the same time. Pull one side and do your floor pan, inner and outer wheel house on that side and then tackle the other side.

Never done this before myself but I like Daniel's plan, it will help maintain the integrity of the back half by keeping one of the quarters in place while working on the other while providing the access you need to do a full 1 piece floor pan. How does adding mini tubs play into this because I know Tim is planning on the DSE mini's.

If you go this far I would consider a new tailpain while your at it.

All I want to do it replace the trunk floor. What is involved to do that?
Do I order a full trunk, then lay it in the trunk and trace it and butt weld the cuts together?
Or do I drill out spot welds, or cut along seams? I haven't seen how the complete trunk pans are out of the box. Is there a seam where it will be welded? Or is that seam one I make with my cut off tool? Or torchs? Or sawzall? Or should I just expect to have to get a plasma cutter?

Hmmmmmm, I had not thought about it that way, but you're probably right.
But for now without a plasma?
