I'm wondering, what is the fastest quarter mile you have ever heard of run on TA Radials?

Recently read a 9 second run in a Fourth Gen Camaro. I'll have to look for more facts.

Car Craft, Feb 2010, Page 46, picture of an ET Street Radial mounted saying NMCA make 8 second runs on 295's.

Wow, I was expecting high 11's. I guess I'm good for a while. New tires just moved down a few notches on the list.

Big difference between at TA Radial and an ET Street Radial. Maybe I read something wrong but highly doubtful that a 9sec pass was made on TA Radials! :o

Thanks Tom, point out the obvious and bust my bubble. So 9's are out of the question on 14" TA's? What if I use Z-Max?

Don,

9's certainly aren't out of the realm of possibility with T/A radials. There is a musclecar dragracing association that mandates the use of stock type bias ply tires that has several competitiors running quicker than 10.50s.

The tires can't be 'soft', not even retreads are allowed. They actually use-some of them anyway-F-70 bias plys, a few can use G-60's if they came on the car factory.. And the cars have to be stock bodied, stock full interior, stock engine componets to like carbs, intakes, and heads. They allow a lot of internal mods but the engine has to 'sound' like it has a factory type idle to it.

I feel certain the 275 or 295 radial is a much better tire than the F-70 and G-60, and if you combine that with an unlimited amount of engine mods, power adders, weight reduction, etc....heck, you can probably go into the 8's on those tires.

Would be a hair raising ride down track for sure-make sure the seat belt is tight!

Look around for the FAST musclecar shootouts online and you will probably find the group I am writing about.

All the best,

Michael

As mentioned don't cofuse the two. The OP said Radial T/A's I wouldbe shocked if anyone ranmuch better than 12 seconds on those, they are bricks and a radial on top of that. I would take an old school bias ply over a T/A radial.

The "stock" cars that run the old redlines and older bias ply tires are FAR from stock, they just "look" stock.

I'm sure with plenty of practice andenough attempts with a power adder (probably a turbo) you could run decent times on a T/A radial, but you would be staring serious damage and bodily harm right in the face.

Your average street/strip car will be lucky to run deep into the 12's (even a legit 10 second car) on T/A's. It's hardto make up for the lack of traction off the line. The quickest I have ever seen on T/A's was mid12'sand that was a big block 68 Camaro that was a real low 11 second car and a very good driver.

"staring serious damage and bodily harm right in the face" made me smile. Thanks for the insights guys.
