Wow...there's drag racing forum...cool!

So I've been trying to get to 11.50's this winter but just can't get there so far. Every time out I have run 11.69 and 11.73 but with varying sixty foot times. My best sixty foot was 1.56 at the end of last year with good traction but not so good DA. Last time out about two weeks ago I had good DA but bad track conditions resulting in sixty foot times of 1.61 (11.69@113.50) and 1.66 (11.73@113.48). I'm pretty sure if I can hook (meaning they prep the track properly) I'm gonna hit 11.50's or close...Next drags are Jan 29 and then Feb 5, wish me luck!

What tires and traction device are you running Paul?

I run Hoosier drag radials and no traction devices. My car hooks fine if the track it prepped...just not as well once a bunch of street cars have run on it and tore it up.

Well you kind of answered one of your own questions. Your car hooks fine if the track is prep'd (meaning perfect), this is where a traction device comes in, it will allow you to hook more consistantly even on not so perfect tracks. Personally I would go for a set of Caltracs.

With that said, have you played with your timing or jetting at all? The old rule of thumb is keep increasing the timing until the ET/MPH drops off and then go back to where it was at the peak. The same holds true for the jetting, keep throwing jet at it until the MPH drops off. Just do one at a time and you may find that few MPH you need to get to the 11.50's.

With your 60 fts. and MPH I think you are running pretty darn good ET's at this point you need to look for a little more power to get to the 11.50's. You will probably start seeing that when you 60 foot real good your MPH will be down a little. You will also see when you spin a little the MPH will be up, but the ET of course will be a little slower.

EFI so sure I messed with AFR and timing, it's pretty much all dialed in now.




Nah, all I need is for the track to be prepped in one of the next two outings and I'll have my 11.50's. Last time out NOBODY was getting traction, not even the guys with the fancy traction devices/suspensions...so it's not like there's something wrong with my setup, I just run less stuff than most.

I'm with Royce Paul, your 60' times are good, and the MPH matches the ET. I think you are going to need to get a little more power from somewhere, I guess since it's FI carb tuning is out, but what about timing etc.? What is your timing currently, and have you tried different shift points?
If you are running consistent high 1.50 60' and similar MPH you are going to have to look somewhere else than traction I belive.

List your whole combo and shift points, I forget what you have exactly. I think you may have some left in the tuneup myself.

Timing...34 degrees from 2500 to 4750, 36 degrees 5000 and up
AFR is 12.75...more or less has little impact on ET. I run a WBO2 so AFR is always adjusted by ECU to be perfect.


In November I ran 11.69 and 11.73 on three separate nights with 1.55-1.57 sixties. Made some adjustments in December and the first time out in January I ran 11.69 and 11.73 but...I was spinning 1.61-1.66 sixties. Had I hooked last time out and ran a 1.55 sixty I would have been .06 faster on the small end and that alone would have put me very low 11.60's or possibly 11.50's.


Oh...shift points....I haven't even shifted it yet. It automatically shifts at 5900-6000 but last spring when I shifted at 6500 I went a tenth or so faster. So if I get traction AND shift look out.
