I need a new driveshaft for my 67. I got a quote from Surge Clutch & Driveline co in South Holland. Anyone used them before? Any other suggestions?

I have had 2 custom steel drive shafts made by them and both worked just fine. Their workmanship is good. Can't speak to their clutches but they are well know and have been around for years. If they are local to you I think that they woudl be a good choice.

I've been beating on a Surge 3" steel shaft w/1350 u-joints with a 600hp 383 thru a TKO 600 for a while now and so far so good. I think it will handle 450hp without blinking an eye. Steel will cost you less than the aluminum shaft will and unless you just gotta have aluminum save the $$ and go with the steel. Squirt some aluminum spray paint on it with a clear coat on top of that and no one will know the difference except you and your wallet. Seems to me it was another $100-150 top go the aluminum route. Stop by and visit or call Surge and they should be able to tell you what you need, I think the guy I dealt with was Ed.

Yea Ed is the guy I got a quote from last summer. He said the same thing about aluminum. He quoted me $366. I measured with their directions and got 50". Sound right?
Not sure how well paint will stay on that steel. Probably need to at least prime it anyway to keep it from rusting.

No different than any other steel........I would sand/scuff it, degrease it with laquer thinner, light coat of self etching primer, paint color of your choice and add a top coat of clear for some extra protection and your good to go. Painted mine 2 years ago, even skipped the primer step and still looks great except for where I scratched it on the e-brake cables.

OK. Sounds doable. I may try to find a used shaft before I fork over that loot.
