From what I understand most modern U-joints are sealed with a plastic/glue. I tried a 2 ton press with a 2' pipe, big hammer, BF hammer, propane torch for about 10 minutes a side. No Joy. Do I need a hotter flame or more patience?

Hotter flame!!!!! Last time I tried it with one of those small handheld propane bottles it never got hot enough to melt out the plastic ...ended up taking the driveshaft/u-joint to someone that had an oxy-acetalene torch.....job done in about 2 minutes !!!!!!!

If you need a hotter flame Don either bring the DS in work and we can do it at lunch time or we can meet up on Saturday morning and do it.

I'm not sure if I've ever done those with a small torch or not. Even with a big torch it requires patience. My home torch is MAP gas all the time, burns hotter than propane. If you can get the ring red hot the nylon will squirt out the hole where they injected it in .

You guy only have propane at home...dont have aceylene?
Most reasonable home workshops have acelelene here....
Im suprised.....once u have aceetlene ..its like having a small mig, a whole new world opens up in handy things to do and fix.

I used an Oxygen/Propane torch and melted them out, propane alone was not hot enough. Took her out for a test drive and all is well with the drivetrain.
