Hello, I need some help please. I've just finished restoring numbers matching 69 Lemans Blue Z-28. When I turn the key the DIR Back UP 20A fuse blows. Also with the key off the CLT LTR CTSY 20A fuse blows when I install it in the fuse panel. All the wiring is new. There are 3 grounds on the dash harness which are grounded. I can't remember how many grounds are on the harness to the rear. Any help would be much appreciated.

Thanks

Kevin

The Clk-Cty-Ltr fuse goes to the cigarette lighter, the clock if you have one, and one side of each courtesy light.

My first suspisions would be the lighter socket and something in the console (could be related to the backup light fusae problem there)

Disconnect the lighter and unplug the harness connector. does the fuse still blow?

The full 69 wiring diagrams, in color and by circuit, are on this site. Look under "DOCUMENT DOWNLOADS" in the gray bar above.

i wrote a book about this last night and it not here? I think the problem might be in the wiring that runs to the rear of the car, Pinched wire to toail lights and dome light at the same spot.

Jim, You were correct on the lighter. You would think all new stuff would work. I guess not. I have not had time to get into the console yet. Hopefully you are correct again. Thanks again

I'm still having issues. The temp and gas gauge don't work and the dir signal back up fuse blows. I have installed another new harness. The temp gauge is grounded to the back of the gauge cluster in the 6 o'clock position as is the gas gauge and harness all to the same point which is in the middle of the upper two gauges. Does the gas gauge need to be grounded separately? Since this is a new harness I doubt it is the problem. The other ground coming from the harness is also grounded to the body under the console. Anybody have a silver bullet/

Thanks kevin

Kevin, when a fuse bows, that means you have a short. There can't be a short thru / beyond the normal load, it has to be upstream.

I seem to be having some difficulty with the turn / backup wiring diagram, it is not on the site right now, and it's saying bad things to me when I try to upload it. The margaritas have been flowing freely tonight, and franking, I don't feel like ***ing with it

Anyway, that circuit comes off the fuse and takes an immediate branch. the backup light side heads toward the backup light switch, and the turn signal side goes immediately to the turn signal flasher, that is the one that goes on a holder under the dash, NOT the one on the fusebox itself.

Pull that flasher, and change the fuse. if the fuse blows again, look at the backup light circuit.
If it doesn't, look at the turn signal circuit, best guess would be a nicked wire where the harness goes into the bottom of the column. I'll try to get that diagram to talk nice.

Jim,
This weird .I did what you said. Fuse did not blow. Blinkers work except drivers side rear. Bulb is ok. Could the socket be bad? I took out the rear seats to check for kinks in the wire .I don't have a back up light switch as the rod wont fit with headers .When I turn head lights on no rear lights. The trunk light worked after I moved it then it kept flickering. Does that mean its not getting good contact somewhere. That could be suspect. Temp and gas gauge still don't work but that could be another issue. Sorry to be a pain but I appreciate your help. Thanks Kevin
