I have done a bunch of Internet searches and found conflicting info.

I am converting from a 1-wire alternator to a 3-wire with an external regulator.

I have a white wire and a blue wire to connect to the alternator. Looking at this picture, where does the white wire go to F or R?

From the wiring diagram in the AIM it looks like the white wire goes from the second terminal on the regulator to the "F" terminal on the alternator. I was running a internal regulator alternator when I was last onthe road. I'd have to pull an old wiring harness out of the box to be sure that's correct.

Hi Jeff,

I could not tell by looking at the AIM, but maybe it is because my copy looks blurry where the connector goes into the alternator. If you or anyone else could confirm where the white wire goes, that would be great!!!

I've got an 8 year old who wakes me up to watch cartoons at 6 am. GRRRRRR.

Thanks for the picture!!! White wire is closest to the red one, so it goes to "R". Great!

I just went to look at a harness because I was concerned that Jim's pic didn't match the AIM. My stock on hand doesn't match the AIM either. The white wire is closest to the red on the stud. Makes me wonder what the pespective of the AIM drawing is.

I just spent the last two days going in circles changing from a 1-wire to a 3-wire alternator and the alternator would not charge.

I had everything mounted and checked the wiring over and over using the AIM. I got very frustrated and considered going back to a 1-wire before finding something very simple.

On the new 3-wire regulator that I bought, there is no ground terminal connection. What looks like a ground terminal connection actually is a second connection for the brown wire that runs to the ALT light. Do original regulators have a ground connection and repops don’t? This was very frustrating and hopefully I can save someone two days of their life trying to figure out why their alternator is not working.

Here is the AIM showing 5 connections going to the regulator.

Here is the back of the regulator. Why in the world would anyone need two connections to go to an ALT light?

Hi Ken,

I got it fixed. The designer of the regulator had a few roos loose in the top paddock.

Thanks for the pic!
David
