About to put my factory gauges in along with a tachometer and was wondering if there is there any way to test a factory 1967 tachometer? If so, what is the procedure and what type of equipment? Thanks in advance...

Easiest would be to jumper it into about any engine.
Power and ground can go straight to the battery, attach the signal wire to the neg coil lead, and fire it up.

Ok thanks, I will try that. Do I have to worry about shorting it or frying it out? I read your filter post, will that help prevent any damage or is that just for the bouncing needle problem?

As long as you keep the 2 connections on the back of the tach from contacting a metal surface simultaneously when connected as Jim described there should be no danger of shorting out the tach.

I just want to make sure before I test this. According to my picture:

The ground is under the "1" on the 142 printing on the circuit board. I would connect this to negative side of battery
Signal wire is left stud. I would connect this to negative side of ignition coil
Power wire is right stud. I would connect this to positive side of battery

Can I use any gauge wire to test? I have 16g on hand right now. Thanks.

Thanks for the instruction. It worked perfectly. My only question now is, how was the tachometer originally powered from the factory? Through the circuit board and/or a separate wiring harness or both? Thanks

Below is copied from the directions for the aftermarket extension harness used to add the factory guage package to 67 cars that didn't have it. Short version is 67's (only) were lucky enough for power and ground for the tach to be supplied by exactly the same means as the fuel guage was. The directions below go thru how to get the tach signal from the coil to toe tach, in the factory way, with the wires provided.

Short version would be:
Make sure the signal connection on the tach isn't connected to anything by the cluster pcb.
Connect a long wire to it.
Run the wire throu the speedo cable grommet or other suitable hole and connect to - side of coil.

TACHOMETER Dash side

1967 UNPLUG THE SPEEDOMETER CLUSTER PLUG FROM THE REAR OF THE SPEEDOMETER CLUSTER. THE PLUG IS NUMBERED ABOVE EACH OF THE 12 INPUTS. INSERT THE CIRCUIT PLUG TERMINAL END OF THE BROWN WIRE TAPED INTO THE EXTENSION HARNESS INTO LOCATION 1. INSERT THE OTHER END OF THIS WIRE INTO FUSE BLOCK LOCATION B-Z.

Engine Side
TACHOMETER
1967 SELECT THE BROWN WIRE WITH A SPADE TERMINAL (U-SHAPED) AND A TWIN LOCK TERMINAL. CONNECT THE TWIN LOCK TERMINAL TO LOCATION B-Z OF THE ENGINE IGNITION HARNESS FUSE BLOCK CONNECTOR. CONNECT THE SPADE TERMINAL END TO THE DISTRIBUTOR SIDE (-) OF THE COIL
