How many of you have had a flat tappet cam get wipped out lately? Was it a Comp? I had one with less than 6 hrs run time get wipped out even with ALL the high dollar oil and additives and nitrate process done by Comp! Thanks,RSR

yup, I lost my last one. It had been in the motor for years, too. I had no idea until I pulled it out, had 4 lobes bad, one was round!
I run a hydraulic roller now, next one (and everyone after that) will be a solid roller.

With one exception which was a guy that works part time for me
He built a SB & used a standard shelf Comp Thumper. Lost it on break-in
I haven't lost one yet but the only place I will use a flat tappet anymore is in circle track when I have no other choice & I only use custom ground, some nitrated & all on a P55 core with EDM lifters or grooved lifter bores if hyd.
So far so good

I have probably sold about 8 or so hyd rollers in the last couple of years to people who have lost a flat tappet cam
The majority were Comp cams,,, not saying they have an issue,,, probably just coincidence,,,

or as the ad goes,,,,,,
"we sell more cams so,,,,," :hitfan:

No issues to date with my flat tappet crower mechanical and their edm cool face lifters.Valvoline vr1 20-50 with 4 oz of eos.

Mike(Wolfplace)..your thoughts on running a rev kit with a solid roller on the street in a bbc.
Seems to me that the rev kit would keep the lifter wheel in constant contact with the cam lobe and not be so likely to hammer out needle bearings when lash is introduced into the train.Aside from additional cost and installation headaches, would the rev kit add to durability and longevity when running a solid roller in a street deal with extended idle times?

You are correct, a rev kit is a very good idea with conventional roller lifters but they are kind of a pain in the ass in a BB & all but impossible in a Dart block so I hardly ever use them

The only solid roller lifter I use, especially in street engines, if at all possible is the Isky EZ or EZX now
They are not cheap but neither is havng needles rolling around in the oil pan

I have personally both used & sold upwards of 100 sets of if these now with zero failures with two exceptions that I know of & at least a couple of these sets have upwards of 20K on them now
Street, Marine, Circle track, some with over 1000lbs nose pressure,,,,

If in the budget getting rid of the needles is just a no brainer to me

And now a shameless plug,,,
We have excellent pricing on the Isky lifters so if you decide to go to a roller & are interested just PM or email me & I will see what I can do :beers:
