Ok I lost my starter bolts. L 48 350/300HP Do I use bolts in all 3 holes? Are all short starter bolts the same or does this starter have to be specific short bolt?

I would guess there is 2 since Ricks has them here: http://www.rickscamaros.com/camaro-starter-motor-mounting-bolt-set-small-block-1967-1969.html

A posting on another site said the correct ones are "knurled", or the starter will walk on you.

I am checking the factory assembly manual now to see what it lists.

Daniel,

On page 90, UPC6 B7, it shows the L-6 and V-8 engine and both use the same 3 bolts. For the V-8 there is the long knurled bolt #3830134 and short knurled bolt #3880880. The other bolt looks smaller, #9419370, and goes into a curved bracket (like this bracket: http://www.rickscamaros.com/camaro-starter-motor-brace-small-block-for-cars-with-14-flywheel-1967-1969.html).

Here's Jim's "Gospel of starter bolts"

2 starters, staggered and straight.

Straight bolt starters (bolts are straight across, perpendicular to the centerline of the car) are for small flywheel setups, what is it, 158 tooth? 154? whatever... 10.5" clutch manuals, powerglides and T350's if stock)
Straight bolt starters use 1 long and 1 short starter bolt.

Staggered bolt starters (one bolt hole is ahead of the other) use 2 long bolts. These starters only work with large flywheel setups, 168 tooth. 168 tooth flywheels were used with 11" clutches and Turbo 400's.

the difference is where the gear ends up so it meshes with the ring gear on the flywheel.

A OEM starter bolt has a knurled shank, about a half inch just below the threads. This helps lock the starter to the block, and is really important.
The long starter bolt is (or was a few years ago) still sold by GM. Go to your local dealer, the real ones are worth it.
The short ones are discontinued. You gotta buy a repro. Repros are not as good as oem, but they work, I have one, it's not been a problem.

Do not use hardware store bolts to hang your starter.

Do use a front brace, these are reproduced and easy to get and worth it.

Thanks guys I guess I'll end up going to the junk yard and get them. That way I'll know I have the right ones. I assume all these starter bolts are the same from year to year?

That can not be emphised enough
How many time over the last 40yrs have I had to 'fix ' a starter because of this?
And I found out way back then making the same mistake

Was going to suggest that

As far as I know, at least from the 50s thru to 70s

Thre other 'must' is the brace from the block to the back of the starter, usually gets lost or thrown away in a rebuild.
