okay, this is a small thing, but bothers me and wanted some opinions...

The coil in my car is lose and the bolts (not original) are stripped and wont tighten the coil. So i am trying to find out if anyone has any good ideas on how to secure the coil...i am going to attempt to post a picture of what i have...not sure if there may be some type of coil holder that i can fasten somewhere ant wanted to see what everyone else is doing...

Looking at it again i guess it is the original bracket, but the "bolts" are not...I am going to get a nice chrome one to replace it. Right now i have it located over the heater hose holes in the firewall...i did that to hide the holes... :( it looks terrible, just dont know how to fasten it to the firewall securely since there are no nuts behind the firewall to fasten it to...

It originally bolted to the intake manifold, on a bracket made to hold it verticle (hat's not an original bracket) like this:

In this pic you can see the 2 boltholes where the original bracket would bolt to (manifold shown is an Edelbrock TM1 tarantula, but a performer rpm has the same bosses and holes, as does an original manifold.

That is an original 1968 327 bracket. Was on the original motor when I bought the car, I just had it chromed.
No firstgen had the stock coil mounted to the firewall originally. Look in your AIM, they were all mounted to the manifold.

Not that it's bad the way yours is. But there was no hole in the firewall originally, no threads there to run the bolt into, and a round oil filled coil should be mounted verticle to worlk correctly.

Rick's has a page full of these original style brackets for 5-10 dollars http://www.rickscamaros.com/catalogsear ... il+bracket and all Chevy manifolds should have the bosses and holes. The throttle return spring attached to the coil bracket, or to another bracket in the same manifold hole.

hmmm...that makes sense. actually now that you mention it, my car had a 6-cylinder in it orginally and i remember it being connected to the motor standing straight up. i now need to find some plugs that will fit into the heater hose holes in my firewall.

thanks for the info!

They make those, too. It's kinda a peice of flat foam thing.
Application is for big block cars, to plug the unused holes.
