Currently I have stock manifolds and stock transverse system. What I want to do is leave my stock exhaust manifolds but upgrade the rest of the exhaust. What I would like is a 2 1/2 exhaust from the manifolds to two mufflers with stock appearing stainless tips that exit at the rear below the bumper. Is there a system out there that fits this description? If so part number please. If not any suggestions.

Best suggestion is to go find a good exhaust shop and have em bend you something up. Near me we have a custom shop in southern naperville, they do "factory vintage car" exhaust systems of all types that are sold through many resto houses, but they also do a lot of performance custom work, and they can even mandrel bend stainless tubing!

They once quoted me $1200 for a system. I didn't buy it, too many $$$. It would have been a work of art though.

On the more realistic approach, firstly the outlets on your manifolds are not 2 1/2", they are 2 1/4" I believe, maybe even 2". So some fancy work of some sort there to go to 2 1/2.
Flowmasters 69 tailpipes are gorgeous, 2 1/2", mandrel bent, with welded on polished stainless tips. Very close to factory in appearance. But they don't sell them separately anymore, only with the American Thunder exhaust system. It's an H pipe system, not an X, and the flowmaster muflflers make your car sound like a mustang (to be gentle)

Borla mufflers have a very nice sound. Magnaflow is not bad and less expensive.

After near a lifetime of trying, I've finally beaten the header leak blues. I run hooker ceramic headers with earls carbon fiber gaskets and stage 5 locking bolts. Borla muffers, flowmaster tailpipes, and the center section was custom made, x pipe and tucked up into the tunnel above the hotchkiss convertible floor brace.

These pics were taken at the shop while the x pipe center section was being built. when I got her home, I did pull the whole system down, dress all the welds, and apint with hi temp silver. System has been in place untouched since july of '08.

Wow Jim, I come home after a roughly 14 hour day to find you think my car sounds like a "Mustang" :boxing: I'll have to find some free time (HA HA) and shoot a little video for the Burnout thread, just to see what the members think. Any South Siders up for taking some video sometime Sat the 12th? I have a rare Sat off.

Mustang,........ Man you know how to take a giant dump on a Man's evening.

I'm sorry Don, and everyone else running 'flows.

I ran them for many years too, that's how I got those tailpipes.
I've spent many years listening to them "drone on down the highway."

Thanks for the replies. I really want to keep that stock look under the hood but get a less restrictive exhaust. Do you guys think I would get HP gain and better performance if I went to a 2 1/2 chambered exhaust system?

Mark, is your car a small block or a big block?

BB manifolds are 2 1/2". Small blocks are 2 1/4"

Small block, but Pypes sells a down tube that goes from 2 1/4- 2 1/2.

Here is my new brainstorm, I like the tailpipes from the Flowmaster American Thunder system and since you can't buy them seperate anymore I was going to buy that kit and try to us the down pipes from Pypes (DGU14S) and connect both systems. Remember I am keeping my manifolds. I just don't know if they will bolt up together. I know some trimming would be in order, that I can do in my garage, but obviously can't bend up 2 1/2 in pipes if needed.

I'll bet you could make that work.

How do you think it would sound being hooked up to exhaust manifolds?
