I was talking to some friends about the interior noise from the exhaust, and they felt that the exhaust dumping behind the rear tires was the problem. I was told that the exhaust exiting at the rear behind the bumper would would make a giant difference in the interior sound levels.
Anyone have any experience with this? opinions?

When you dump the exhaust under the car at the rear axle in my opinion you have another large chamber between the ground and the floorboards and the sounds waves bounce up and down until they exit out the back of the car. A certain amount of that resonance transmitts thru the floor into the cabin making the interior noisier. It stands to reason that running full tails move the noise all the way out the back and you get much less added interior noise. The type of muffler can inpact noise levels both ways but you will always have more tolerable interior noise levels with a full rear exit exhaust sytem. As you already know I run a 3" Magnaflow system with an X-pipe running to straight thru oval Magnaflow mufflers and turn downs at the axle. The turndowns are pointed at maybe a 45* angle towards the sides of the car so the sound waves are not bounced striaiht up and down but more out to the side. Is it quiet......hell no, you guys are always telling me that you hear me comin from 3 blocks away, but I like it that way. It wasn't meant to be a long run cruiser, it was meant to be somewhat loud and obnoxious and that is what I get with my exhaust. Actually with the X-pipe and the Mangnaflows it really insn't that bad at higway cruise speeds.

Especially the part when he says
" Is it quiet.........hell no, you guys are always telling me that you hear me comin from 3 blocks away, but I like it that way. It wasn't meant to be a long run cruiser, it was meant to be somewhat loud and obnoxious"

When I originally read this I thought about the first Camaro I had and the Chevy II with glasspacks and thought "what's he complainin about?"

Zoomies are really cool.
Even if they exit below the rockers behind the front tires, they are still really cool.

Port spacing looks all wrong for a small block!
