Hi guys! Since the Honda single cam forum doesn't have a smartphone app and we do, and since I own this place, you guys get to put up with my latest build thread.

Years ago, in my 20's, I had a CB750, it was a k2 or k3 or somewhere around there, old enough to have the wiring slide thru the handlebars, they cost resuced that real quick.

Well last summer I bought me another one, this a K4 (1974) model. It's got 15,395 miles, is fairly clean and works really well, my niece and I have been driving her all over this summer.

She does need some cleaning up though. on the list is a complete teardown. strip all the old silver paint off the engine and repaint, then remove all the formerly polished engine parts, repolish, and clearcoat. The frame will get cleaned up and either repainted or powdercoated.

The other biggie will be to completely teardown the wheels, re paint the hubs, polish everything else, and relace em with new spokes I've never done that, so wish me luck.

Of course the tank and sidecovers will get smoothed and a fresh coat of metalflake candy orange.

Everything else will get cleaned and polished and replaited and repainted as needed. Goal is an accurate as new restoaration.

She's coming apart nicely.

let's see, do I want to clean and refurb the parts as they come off, or as they go back on?

We can probably fit the entire frame in my hillbilly blast cabinet if you go that far.

If you're gonna powder coat I'd let them do the blasting. If I wuz gonna paint it I'd pressure blast it not siphon blast in my cabinet. Just my .02

Agree with Jeff on the powder coating vs. painting and the prep work

Why pressure for painting? More even surface when done?

I have a decent pressure blaster, but I hate it. No way I'm blasting that frame out in the open.

Time! I find it much slower to siphon blast in the cabinet. (actual paint removal time) It seems to take longer to get to bare steel in the cabinet vs with pressure. That doesn't include clean up time for pressure blasting. My Pressure set up is a little finicky at times so I can appreciate the lack of disire to do it that way and then there is the mess it makes. I love to throw small items in the cabinet and give them a quick blast sut for larger jobs it's the pressure blaster.

got to spend a couple hours in the garage, cleaning parts.

Is it better to get all the lil parts ready to go back on first, then do the frame and engine, so it can all just go back together?

Silly question. I need a bare frame to take to the powdercoater.
Then I'll have a 174 pound block of alluminum, need to strip the old silver paint off the cases, head, and cylinders, repaint it silver, then remove all the outer covers, strip the old clearcoat off, polish them, shoot new clear, and put it all back together. And get it done before the frame is done.
