I thought baseball bats were made from Ash trees. I figured the answer was the Emerald Ash borer. At the end of a video I watched on the subject it mentioned that the young guys coming into the big leagues couldn't use bats made from Maple. I find it somewhat amazing that you could crack a bat into peices with a baseball. I gotta think there are no visual signs of a crack before one breaks and goes a flying into the stands or field.
