I have been under cars since I was 10 years old and I ain't never seen nothing that looks like that in my life but that does look like it would be a helper. Could it have been something to push down on the frontend so tires wouldn't leave the ground?

Never seen anything like it either! Hard to tell how long it has been there but most would prolly say it is aftermarket. Looks like we all have something to learn on this one. Good luck!

That is a cool find. Never seen anything like that on the front.
Looks like a good "fit" where ever it came from.

It's not a factory part.

Is it only on the right side?

There are a few variations of helper springs for the rear for cars pulling trailers.

The car is an original bigblock car so it should have had the stronger springs for that engine.

OK here's my .02. I did wheel aligment for ten years or more back in the 80's and never seen any thing close to this. It's aftermarket or custom made. It doesn't function as a sway bar, it only serves to hold front end up. It makes the car ride like crap because it has effectively changed the amount of coils that perform in the original spring.
