Not on the Camaro.Changed the shocks on the Ranger today and one of the lower mounts on the front attached to the frame broke, just the threads there is enough left for the shock to mount, but nothing to run a nut on to hold it.It's a smooth stud with threads at the end,it is attached to the radius arm.Best fix to me is to cut off the broken stud, drill a hole, run a bolt thru the hole and then weld the bolt at both sides where it contacts the radius arm.Any other suggestions I'm open to them. It's not happening til Sat. no matter what I do.

I would only weld the head on the outside. If you weld both sides it might crystallize and break at the shoulder of the mount. Use a grade 8 bolt and you shouldn't have any problems.

Replace it with a universal shock mount from the local parts store, in the HELP section.

Tom,

The wife is out w/the digital camera.
It's on a Ford truck w/a I beam front axle,no lower control arm, there is a boxed arm(radius arm) that run's from the axle to a mount just in front of the drivers seat,1/3 of the way back the shock mount is a stud w/a shoulder for the shock to sit on,the threads that would keep the shock on the stud snapped off,I can slide the shock on the stud still but I can't secure it.

Jeff,

How does the universal mount work,I have no threads left on the old stud to secure anything new to,I'd have to mount it to the radius arm somehow,it's the bottom mount, the top mount is a spade type mount.

I have grade 8 bolts and nuts, and it's real easy to get to,don't even have to pull the tire really,I thought that welding it in both sides of the frame it would be a little more secure from any torque that the shock would apply to it,or does'nt the shock mount take that much of a beating.

About the only time the mount should get any torque or pressure would be if the shock bottomed out as in jumping bar ditches or stumps.

I just did this on my brother's F/S van. I broke the whole stud off of his. I drilled the raduis arm right where the old mount was and then installed the universal mount with it's supplied hardware. The universal mount looks like the lower rear shock mount from many leaf spring cars.

Well I tried Jeff's suggestion and went looking for the universal mount, first place A***Z*** didn't know what I was talking about,2nd place N*** had no clue,3rd place A****** the 17 year old girl working needed to know make/model etc. etc. FOR A UNIVERSAL REPLACEMENT SHOCK MOUNT.Needless to say it got a hole drilled,a grade 8 bolt welded in and a bronze sleeve for the shock rubber(didn't fit the bolt tight enough for me),all is good on the work truck, new battery, shocks, tires for the winter,it's only got 197,000 miles on it.
