Here's a post.

What is your driveline angle?
I have a factory subframe, small block and a turbo400.
I need to set my pinion angle without my drivetrain in. So I need to get close.

Any help between shopping trips would be appreciated.

Merry Christmas!

Ron

Hey Ron,
I saw this recently somewhere else but can't find it now. From memory the pinion angle is 6 degrees up from horizontal. If I can find the original reference I will post it for you.
Cheers

Tell us more about you car and what stage you are at now. IMO you really need all of your driveline in place, car at or close to driving weight with the weight of the car on all for corners and at the final ride height. Not knowing where you are at now I am not sure I would worry about pinion angles at this stage just yet, if it is all stock suspension you should be close enough just bolting the rear to the leafs and just fine tune it later on. Your final pinion angle is related to your engine/trans and driveshaft angles and is why it is important to have this the balance of the driveline in the car to take the necessary measurements.

Hope this helps out some!

Hi,
Here is the car and what I am putting in it.
[attachment=1]F76B4940.JPG[/attachment
The upper crossmember, not pictured, is actually a bolt in. but the pinion support must be set and welded after placement. The floor, trunk pan, and rear frame rails have been replaced. I want to get the rear end brackets installed so they can be welded and panted with the rest of the bottom. There is about 1 degree of adjustability available after welding, so I have to be pretty close right now. any help is greatly appreciated.

Looks like it will be a while before you get to angles and vehicle loaded. Basically front and rear angle need to cancel each other . Pretty simple.

You might need to do some more research, as your pinion dosen't move like a leaf spring car, what does the rear end manufactuer say?

Hi,

The picture is from August, and you are right is is pretty simple, if you have a number to start with. Which I don't. The manufacturer says “Position the unit in your chassis and set the desired ride height you want the car to have. The pinion angle must also now be set, as it is only slightly adjustable later. It should be the same as the transmission.” That's why I asked the question. I read that a reading can easily be taken from the harmonic balancer.

thanks!
