My '69 has a non original Saginaw steering box. I would like something with more "feel" it's kind of a "floaty" feeling now at speed. I'm on a budget so I need to be thrifty. How do I tell what I have & what are good boneyard donor cars for an upgrade?
Thanks

Some people think I'm out of my mind, but in my defense it's pretty scary in there!

What you have? I dunno, JimL82 might.

All sag manual and power boxes are physically cimilar, and fit the same "footprint" and have the same mounting bolt locations. Manuals have a smaller shaft than power (and take a different ragjoint) and "late models" (sometime in the 70's) went to metric hydraulic fittings, and yet anither different shaft size.

The boxes differ internally by the "ratio" "fixed or variable ratio" and the location of the internal stops.

It's pretty widely accepted that a box intended for a thirdgen camaro/firebird will fit fine with some adapters, and that one intended for an IROC / WS6 transam (identified in the parts computers as "special suspension) will be a fast ratio, high effort box.

They are under $200 (reman, from any auto parts store) plus a few bux for adapters and ragjoint.
