Hey guys, I ran across a guy that has a couple blocks....one motor is a longblock, they other is a shortblock.

Details as I was told over the phone.

Block #1: (shortblock)
CASTING # 3914678
STAMP # V0506ME
**partial VIN N/A**

BLOCK #2:
CASTING # 3858147 (I think he read it to me wrong or wrote it down wrong, I think it's supposed to be 3858174)
STAMP # FOT26HCH (I think the "T" is either a 1 or 7)
**partial VIN N/A**

I find block #1 to be a 68' model "327", 2 bolt main 210hp with a powerglide. Someone please confirm.

On block #2, the casting number claims it to be a 327, but I find it hard to decode the suffix.

Any help?

Thanks guys,

~Joe

Block #1 is correct. Block # 2 is somewhat in question until you can confirm the numbers. That aside Block # 2 is 1966 327/275 PG with Holley carb. The extra H suffix is for Holley equiped cars I'm going out on a limb and say it's an old Vette motor. Also it is a small journal block.

#1 was assembled in Flint on May 6. The first 3 characters of the partial vin would prove the "line" (1=chevy) the year (8=1968) and the cars assembly plant (for camaros, L=Los Angeles, N=Norwood)

ME is (according to the listing at nastyZ) a 67 327-210-PG

#2 (the T is for sure a 1) is Flint, Jan 26.

HCH got me a hit as a 327-275 HP holley carbed powerglide motor from 1966, this would be a big car engine

I didn't look up the casting numbers to verify any of this, and some or most or all of the vin stamps would help a lot too, but some unconfirmed reading here http://66.154.44.164/forum/showthread.p ... 574&page=3 says it is not a vette engine.

I wasn't aware the 275 horse motors had Holley carbs. The one I had was a Carter AVS. I think I decoded it to a full size Impala back in the day but who knows for sure anymore.

The 678 casting is a 68 casting and the ME is a 327/210 Camaro block. Not sure on the other one but I do know they used the extra H to indicate a Holley carb (R for rochester).

Thanks so much guys! Helps alot. The guy picked these up in a local junkyard for the price of scrap. They were piled in the center of a travel trailer out of the weather.....along with s Pontiac 400's and two Pontiac 455's. I'd say he got a sweet deal!

Thank you gentlemen. I have another post coming up shortly for you to take a gander at.

Thanks,

~Joe
