Hello Forum,

I literally just bought my first 1st Gen. I was born October of 66, and found a base coupe 327, numbers matching (supposidly) that was also 'born' the third week of October 66 (10C), about ten days before my birth.

Here's the advice, help I need. I've only seen pictures and video of her. Everything they've sent me in pictures and e-mails seems to match. There's no partial VIN on the 327 block (and I've been told in 67 that a lot of motors didn't have the partial VIN except for the SS's and Z-28's), but the numbers are correct.... V1012ME. I haven't seen the casting date (yet). The numbers on the tranny and rear-end look code/date correct, but I haven't seen a partial VIN on either. (do the rear-ends even have a partial VIN?). Everything APPEARS to be legit so far. Well, they don't have my money yet. I see her on Friday morning (9 Apr 2010). I've got my data handy (thank you CRG), and will be able to verify all numbers on Engine Block, tranny, rear-end, etc... and this car looks clean. Supposidly the only interior peices replaced are front seat covers, is in great working/running order.... being sold for divorce/financial reasons. It's a low VIN number car, whose number is close to the body number (from the cowl tag) AND whose VIN correlates to the date ranges for VIN's out of the Norwood plant based on the data out of the CRG web-site.

What I need help with (and feel free to ask me questions) is what do I need to be REALLY concerned about. I'm wanting an original car, but lets say that numbers are all good... and everything appears to be authentic/original. What do I need to be looking at as far as problem areas or deal breaker problems. What area's do I need to be checking for bondo, or typical rust prone areas, etc. I have only a vague idea of where I should be looking.

Can any of you give me the advice I need to go into this friday morning, before I hand them a certified check, on what to look for, check, feel, touch, taste, smell about this car?

Maybe I should have posted this in a different area of the forum, but thought while you were seeing my 'hello' I could kill another bird with this stone.

Thanks in advance for any input.... and let me say, I'm glad to be here.

Cowl Tag on this car:
10C
67-12437 NOR 10134
717-Z F - F
2S
5Y

VIN 124377N118### 94,000 Original miiles

I'm not a numbers guy, but as far as rust locations, any of the lower sheet metal, drivers side floorpan in front, trunk drop offs, and the metal part of the dash near the windshield are all common rust areas. They make a relatively inexpensive tool that uses a magnet to indicate something other than steel in the sheet metal, a good investment before you lay down your hard earned cash. There are a lot of guys here who are very knowledgeable about the "numbers". I'm sure they will chime in, although 2 days may not be enough time. I hope you have found a good one, and welcome.

Some people think I'm out of my mind, but in my defense it's pretty scary in there!

The stripes are not correct, but hey it is going to be your car, do with it what you want. A 327 could have had the Nose Stripe installed at the Dealer, but this car has Z28 stripes. I think about 60% of the First Gen Camaro's at every show or Drive has those stripes. Many call them SS Stripes, even though no First Gen SS came with them. The car looks great, Just check the lowers, around the rear wheel wells, They Rear Shock Towers in the trunk, and around the front and rear windows with your Magnet. The picture is a little shakey, but the paint looks pretty good. If you want to see what kind of unseen problems you could have with a First gen that looks real solid, Look at this thread about a 69 that LOOKS real Nice at the start. This is the reason to use a Magnet to go over the car, and also why to walk away from one that you find hidden problems on. This guy was real devoted to the car and SAVED it. Juts give it a once over,

Just for future reference, the Z10 and Z11 (Pace Car) cars were rs ss cars and did have these stripes from the factory. :beers:

Only the 69 Pace Car had these and it was a Special Order Pace Car. The 67 Pace Car had the Standard Blue Nose stripe. Those cars by Definition are not Standard cars they are Special Order cars purpose built for that race. Yes I was wrong there was obviously a small lot of 1969 Camaro Pace Car Replica cars built with Z-28 Stripes, but there was also a Panther Camaro built with a Glass insert in the hood, I would not call this a common item. There was also a list of Special Order cars that came with Company Special Order colors, or non Standard options. There is also a Camaro Wagon used in promotions and a Camaro use in ads with Wood Side Trim in Hawaii. This does not make them production.
Show me one Factory Built and Factory Painted 1967 SS Camaro 350 or 396 with the Z-28 markings form the Norwood Ohio plant or the LA Plant just as there was not any 1967 Camaro Production Built SS/Z28. It was a contradiction of build codes.

The Z10 was not a pace car and they were not special ordered. There are limited numbers of them but they are RPO codes (Regular Production Option Z10 and Z11). Both of these are SS cars and they do have those stripes. There were 6 black panthers built but I believe the car with the glass insert was called Cherokee http://www.mecum.com/auctions/lot_detai ... 0509-79381
If you are wanting 67 specific you should have stated that in your other post.
