Tim I'll be honest with you. When I had my house boat I bought one at one of the boat shops for $250 or something like that. Supposed to be best money could buy. It lasted about 4 months. Took it back for exchange and it lasted about 6 months. I got my money back went to Sears and bought a Craftsman battery tender for less than $50 and it was working the day I sold the boat about 4 years later. It kept 8 deep cycle batteries ready to go.

A friend gave me a NAPA battery maintainer & I've been using it for 2 years - works perfectly
In the barn (no electric) I use a 12 volt solar panel to keep the tractor battery up during winter,
also works great.

I've been using a little charger that I've had since the 80's when I had bikes,it's so old the name is gone on it but it still works after 25 years.

I don't use anything over the winter. I have a Schumaker 2/10/50 volt charger I though on to whatever battery I'm getting ready to use that season a couple days ahead of time on the 2 amp charge and run it for about 24hrs.

I use a few " battery tenders" now. Never really had trouble with them. Just figured there has to be some better technology available now. Mine are several years old. And I need at least 3, so I was thinking about going to these new multi-tap units.
I dunno.
