Gents, as some of you know I'm in the process of replacing control arms. But I kind of screwed up when I parked the car, jacked it up and tore it down, because I'm a little too close to the wall of my garage to be able to work on the passenger side comfortable.

Another problem is the motor is town down while I'm making a decision on heads, cam, etc.

Now that I got the driver's side arms and coil in, I decided I want to blast and paint the coils.. I figure it's easily accessible now, better go ahead and do them.

So -- finally the question -- y'all have any recs on how I could scoot the car over about a foot without reinstalling the driverside wheel/steering assembly all the way? Someone told me just to put the jack under the engine crossmember and swing the car over a little bit, but that sounds absolutely dangers and stupid.

Ideas?

Some people think I'm out of my mind, but in my defense it's pretty scary in there!

We used floor jacks under cars to turn and move them in the shop all the time when I was a mechanic. smooth concrete is mandatory.

Dang, really!? Well... I do have smooth concrete floors... So, I would jack up the car at the crossmember (I'm guessing), put the car in neutral, release the parking brake, and just swing the front end around?

I would buy or borrow a pair of wheel dollies to put under the rear tires. Jack up the rear end first, place the dollies the move the floor jack to the front crossmember and jack it up off the stands and roll the whole deal where you want it, having a second body would be helpful in this endeavor. If dollies are out of the question the jack the front and rear alternately and move each end a little at a time.......be creative and most of all be safe!

Zac,
What rearend do you have, a spool or locker could be problematic trying to spin the front around with only the front end up.
If some sort of "carts" were available, I'd do like Tom says.
I'd also probably lower the jack to it's lowest point before attempting to move it.

I've done it with wheels on by jacking up a little under front cross member and under pumpkin and moved the car from 1 side of the garage to the other. Tom's idea with the dollies sounds safer, but both will work just go slow and be safe moving a little at a time.

The first time I did that I used floor jacks front and back and just went slowly, now it sits on wheel dollies all around.

Tim, I have a Eaton posi.

I think I'm going to look around for some wheel dollies. I'm extremely worried I'm going to dump the car on the ground, and I don't have anyone around to help me in the endeavor.

Thanks for the help, gents!

Just curious. What did you end up doing?
