I've done some research and know that somewhere around 4-4.5" of backspacing seems to be the norm on a 15 x 7 first gen wheel. I have a chance to pick up some wheels that match the rears I have at a very reasonable price. The backspacing is 3.5". The tires on them are 215-60R15's, I have the 2" Hotchkis drop springs in front. These would be to tide me over for a summer or two until I can afford what I really want. Any issues I could run into with these?

a 7" rim on a Camaro should be close to 4" backspace.
An 8" should be 4 1/2"

What's the width and backspace of the front rims on it now?

And yes, I do have a set of 15x7 rallyes in the basement, with trim rings and the "big center caps" I dunno where you heard I'd sell em cheap tho...lol. But yes, I'd take any reasonable offer, but only for all four together.

Since the tires where 215's and the backspacinh was 3.75 I went ahead and got them. They seem to fit well. bummer is the wheels I bought them to match don't work. Centerlines with a 3-1/2" backspace, and MT ET Street 275 R60x15. Found out after I had them mounted and balanced.I have the backs on craigslist now. I like the Centerlines so much I'll have to get rears and tires to match.

Sold the rears yesterday. Too bad I like the 15" wheel look. Choices in drag radials and wheel with a 4-4.5 backspacing with a "centerline" type look are limited unless I want to pony up for the autodrag III's. I can get MT ET Streets in a 255 R60 15 which should fit no problem. Now I just have to save some cash for tires and hunt up some wheels.

Found Jeg's Sport drags today, just the look I want and only $183 delivered for the pair. Less the $53 I made on the other rears I'm only in $130 so far.

Now a little more horse trading with my 14" SS wheels and tires and I should have enough for the Mickey Thompson ET streets. Since I have 4" backspace on the 14"s with a 235 60R14 and lots of room I believe the 255 60R15's will fit nicely with these 15 x 7 4" backspace wheels. Please correct me if my logic is messed up before I get around to ordering the tires in a week or so.

Have you looked into the Jeg'swheel in an 8" width? I think it would look better and with the right backspacing I would think the 255 tire will still fit just fine. Just my .02 worth. I am sure someone out there have the right combo for a 69 and 8" wheels on the back!

I looked into the 8". On some of the other forums an 8" with 4.5" and a 275 fits if you roll the lip. I have the lowering springs in back so I think I'll play it safe with the 7"/255 combo.

What about the 8" with the 255 Don? Won't that clear the lip without rolling it??
